By training as a driving instructor with Drive Pro Academy, you will:

  • Build a flexible, self-employed career
  • Meet clear local demand
  • Deliver an essential service within your community
  • Avoid relocating to the mainland to train

We're based in Orkney, where we train both learner drivers and driving instructors in a rural, island setting. Like Shetland, we deal daily with long waiting lists, limited test availability, weather disruption and the reality that learning to drive can be hard when resources are stretched.

We are starting to explore whether we can support Shetland by training one or two local people to become driving instructors over the next year. This is not a franchise and it is not a high-pressure recruitment scheme. It is a supported training pathway designed specifically for island communities.

Training would involve a mix of online learning, a short intensive training period in Orkney, and ongoing support once you return home to teach in Shetland. Joe, our trainer, will also spend time in Shetland as part of the process.

Doing some of your training in Orkney means you very quickly learn how different rural and island driving is from city-based instruction. We’ve built Drive Pro Academy specifically around those realities. When instructors train with us here, they’re learning skills that transfer directly back into places like Shetland, not only techniques designed for busy urban centres.
